poultry

There are many reasons for poultry. Firstly they are great FOR the land. That for me is the biggest reason I like having them. We have had turkeys for two years and now we have Laying hens.

The next big reason is most people have never had good proper healthy poultry products.

We move our birds behind the livestock and it’s amazing to see the effects the birds have on the pasturE afterwards. The scratching and the manure they leave behind is like rocket fuel!

This is real regeneration in action and is what makes farming so fun. We can work with animals to build soil, store carbon, help support more biodiversity and feed us. This is the future of farming.

Poultry in IRELAND is mainly done in intensive systems where the birds never EVEN get outside, nevermind moved on to fresh grass everyday! I like taking an enterprise that has been so over-intensived and DEMONSTRATING HOW IT CAN BE DONE WITH CARE AND HOW MUCH THIS CHANGES BOTH THE BIRD’S LIVES AND THEIR TASTE.

My only issue with poultry is the feed inputs. We feed them orgainc feed ,of course, but any activity THAT RELIES on inputs is not one I want to base the farm on. For now, it WORKS great for SOIL REGENERATION and for the costumer but IN THE long term I would like to get away from feed inputs.

WE NO LONGER HAVE turkeys FOR THE VERY REASON THAT they eat a huge amount of feed. I am hoping to start HAVING Geese WHO HAVE A LOWER feed requirEment AS THEY mainly eat grass.
